“Say What! Junior” is a writing lab designed to help young writers develop skills in short fiction, creative non-fiction, screenwriting, playwriting, poetry, and magazine writing.
This program provides an introduction to a variety of genres such as poetry, short fiction, creative non-fiction, magazine writing, and drama. Assignments will include writing exercises designed to explore elements of crafting a creative writing piece: voice, character, style, structure, issues/conflict, plot, and setting. Students will learn and practice critical analysis of each other’s work with an eye towards revision. Students will also read and discuss the writing of established authors across genres, investigating the strategies utilized to craft poetry and/or prose.
